Augusta

by Suicide Swans

/
  • Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

In 2016 the band once again escaped to their studio, By The Living Grace where they recorded and mixed their new album. In 2017 the band finally releases their second album ‘Augusta’ that pushes further their alt-country sound into new musical territory for the band incorporating pop, woodsy mid-tempo rock mixed with washes of violin, Wurlitzer/Rhodes flourishes, 4 part harmonies and reverb-laden vocals. The album represents the band expanding their alt-country roots incorporating pop and indie rock with the album fluctuating between acoustic laments: Wall and Come & See, forlorn mid tempo country/rock laments Pleasanton, Easy Heart and Canyons, country-indie rockers such as first single Horses, Broken Lines, and expansive sonic jams Nurse, Let Me Be and Yearling featuring the bands new found interest in mixing country and indie rock inside Americana.

Horses 04:06
Is there anybody out there That I can see, something you need Well it stampedes, through my skull Like wild horses, what did they leave My neighbor said someone They broke in, stole all your things And if you cared, to answer What would that be, could you see That I, Oh I I’d probably see Is there anybody out there Can you hear it, buzzing through the air And I was probably mean, but you’ll never see That I don’t care We put in for, our vacations Like Halloween, and thanksgiving Now the snowflakes, they drop Upon the street, we woke up in scenes
2.
Let Me Be 04:54
I hadn’t realized you’d stepped away Keep it tired then, I’ll stay Do it again, then I’ll pay Take your time Well if it came, and then it went Don’t know where to start, or where I begin Tried so hard, then I fell Just washed away And if I called, out your name What would you say Let me be And all the times, that we’ve seen Lost in a dream Let me be Just let me be Well it came back to, that part It said where does it end, or stop Well I lied through my teeth Just walked away And if you feel up to it, once again Do what I want, but you, are not my friend Run ragged by the, way it ends
3.
Wall 03:24
Sometimes we said we were covered in gold But we are nothing but clay And as you spread yourself around so thin No button to press to begin again And oh it’s those peacock blue skies At what cost I’m scared out of my mind Lost and transient I feel I’ve changed Sometimes it’s your fault when there’s no one to blame Well you were the writing left on the wall I rubbed out your name when you let me fall And all this timing I didn’t, time at all Well you were writing left on the wall Path, pavements, alleyways and trees Voices in cities running like streams Halloween costumes, graduation gowns If you stay too long then I think you’ll drown And oh, how I’ve caved It’s the only way I can see It’s happening to me
4.
Easy Heart 04:21
Whisper a name From across the sea A stranger to you A stranger to me In the outside lands Rap you in these hands Gliding through sands Squeeze you slowly And the lights, they call, out your name Swing, in the breeze, all the same I got an easy heart I got an easy heart I got an easy heart That’s not all mine And we are waves Fade into seas No empathy To save us And how long do I Get here with you Broken and fused So lonely So take it easy now, let yourself lay down And relax, in the morning sun And all the things you had, are lost and it’s sad Move out, move on, it’s done
5.
Yearling 06:10
Oh we carried in our arms, rushing through veins so soft and slow What choice did we have, when we’re blind, innocent, grey and old Why do we fade, as the sun shines around the globe Destroyed and maimed, like insects attracted to light bulbs Now I’ve been thinking about how long I’ve got left to go Left out in the field, like cities, I’m all lost and alone So, close your eyes, to the things that make it so As you resist, rushing through the glow Carried away, like a yearling yet to grow You’ll never know, you’ll never know Carried in your bets, with your torrents, your torments and the thing, you’ll never own A diamond is a rock, a fossil, so shiny, wealthy, pointless and cold Oh how we were blown away, like we were never known And the times have changed, like we had never grown Bruised and trembling, from, being left all alone Peace upon you, before you, before you

Canyons 04:12
7.
Broken Lines 03:39
And there are tiny monsters, with no bones, and they’ve gotten out And they are like whispers, floating, through your house So many cracks and creases, find a spot where, your not lost in the crowd Late night cash machines, drunken notes from, bank accounts Cause all is gone Broken, withdrawn Because, timeeee Oh those broken lines They’ll wash away Your flooded mind And soooo We will see Those crippling thoughts Float so easily You do what you want, but now its time, to accelerate Quarantined phone calls, they’ll just, have to wait And here’s, to taking it, easily
8.
Come and See 03:37
There are fires and alarms, folks drowning in their jars And I don’t want to know I really don’t want to know But I guess that we will see Fossils made in factories, so we ship their bones like a breeze But I still row To places left unknown But I guess that we will see So crawl, out your window you’ll see All these people, lost possibilities And where out there should they go Hung out to dry so slow Cause in time, you will find If you come and see So why write a note, when you’ve got no use to send Every smuggle word That you fail to recommend Another reason to please So why have we failed to decline Never failed or resigned Don’t fall so far behind Because You might finally see
9.
Pleasanton 05:04
Fell in love with your methadone eyes Upon the ground where we lied Smothered by the things we denied Count all the things that broke as hard as we tried Took you away so ugly so free And don’t you cry you’re still beautiful to me Cauterized all your aching bones Suffocated you in your home And you thought, you’d always win Don’t know where to start, or where to begin And I’m a long way away, from you again Out there, in Pleasanton Escape from the tears flooding Boardwalk street Don’t you cry, you’re still beautiful to me The older you get the more you have to see What’s better for you isn’t always what’s better for me Why would you keep your number, when I knew you would And all the time and the changing, like I felt it could And in your house that you were suffering, like I knew you would Don’t forget I will miss you, I will miss you where you stood In Pleasanton
10.
Nurse 06:02
In the morning, I feel hollow, as you took your life away And if you have ears, you would have heard, you would have heard me fade As trees, blew leaves, onto the ground Collected, like memories, of passing thunderclouds Aint it funny, to be crippled, for a while Ah sweet nurse, in the darkness, comfort me with a smile With this rusted heart, I fear, I will truly be alone for so long You took, all the ugly, and made it beautiful for some In the mouth, of the morning, early, when time carries on My heart, and severed limbs, mountains that just don’t belong
